New LE@D Self Paced Course: Social Media 101: Business & Career Tools

People use social media tools like Facebook for personal projects: sharing photos or connecting with friends. But did you know that you can find great information about business, industry and careers using tools like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter? Students, career changers, job hunters, and business people can find out about industries and companies, connect with important people, and promote themselves to potential employers and customers. 

When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
  • Conduct effective business & career research using social tools
  • Teach your library users to do their own research with these tools
  • Talk to library users about the characteristics of social tools (LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook)
  • Explain security, privacy, and safety in using social tools for business research
  • Teach others how social tools can compliment "traditional" business and career information sources
  • Show how to effectively use advanced features in LinkedIn for business research
  • Discuss why Facebook is useful for career research, and how to be careful in using it
  • Use blogs and "microblogs" like Twitter for business and career research
  • Apply video search and "social" search engines to effective research strategies
  • Demonstrate new resources for staying current on social tools for business and career research
