Integrating Social Media and Mobile Technologies to Help Enhance Library Services - January 27

Part one of this hands-on workshop covers Social Media. Social Media is not new; however, it is literally everywhere today and it is connecting people, places, things, and ideas. And libraries, for centuries, have acted as conduits to help their communities obtain high-quality information while providing a social space for their users to consume, repurpose, and share content. In this interactive session learn how to enhance library resources and services that exist both online and in physical library spaces by using a variety of social media tools including blogging, microblogging, social networking, gaming, and other social media tools.

Part two covers mobile technologies. Mobile devices certainly are evolving beyond simple cell phones and are becoming connections to a world of information. Now that information is literally available at everyone’s fingertips, your library’s resources and services could also be in your users‟ pockets at their point of need. In this session learn, why libraries should have a mobile presence, how to use Google Analytics to decide what to include on your mobile web page, to code or not to code using WYSIWYG editors and other mobile tools, to create links to Google mobile maps, ways to generate and use QR codes to help promote your mobile presence, and solutions to common challenges in mobile development. Leave this workshop with powerful tools that you can use today to help connect people, places, things, and ideas.
